Facing the cameras as company spokesperson during a crisis is the definition of pressure, so wouldn’t it be nice to know what questions you will be asked?
Well, there’s no need to guess or dust off your crystal ball, as this video reveals the four questions you will be asked:
Knowing the questions is only half of the equation though, there’s still the small matter of giving strong and appropriate answers.
Succeeding under the media spotlight
Here are three things you should remember to help you communicate well under the media spotlight:
- Put yourself in the shoes of those affected by the situation: how are they feeling right now? What do they need to hear?
- Plan what you want to say before the cameras start rolling: never wing it
- Get your body language, tone of voice and facial expressions right: people will make judgments based more on how you come across, than the specific words you use
Understanding the media agenda is an essential part of succeeding in a crisis interview (and a critical part of your media training). Knowing what you are likely to be asked leaves you free to focus on communicating your messages with clarity and sincerity.
