Emily Tofts
Consultant
Emily is an experienced crisis management consultant having worked in crisis management, resilience and security for a decade during which she has provided advice, training, and exercising in the private and public sectors.
At Insignia, Emily is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering crisis management exercises for clients including ABB Group, DP World, Lundin Mining and Viridor. She has developed and delivered exercises in the U.S., Canada, Sweden, Poland, and South America.
Alongside exercising and training, she undertakes crisis management plan audits, risk assessments and drafts crisis plans, based on her years of experience in identifying risks and contingency planning at Insignia and within central government.
Emily has experience working with the energy, chemical, food manufacturing, water and media sectors. She particularly enjoyed carrying out an audit of crisis management plans and processes for a major port group in the UK, as the work drew on her nautical knowledge from the Royal Navy.
Commenting on the impact of Emily’s work, a senior client in the energy sector said “Both exercises were delivered well, and our senior leaders found the process extremely useful. Our successful response to a later incident was in large part due to the training we received.”
Formerly employed by the UK Government, Emily has extensive experience of working on national incidents within the energy, chemical, and business sectors, including with COBRA. She established the first crisis response team in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, training 350 volunteers to manage serious incidents within the UK’s critical national infrastructure.
Emily’s background means that she can offer a unique perspective to clients for whom the UK Government is a crucial stakeholder.
She is a Royal Navy Reservist and has worked on domestic and international issues. She was involved in the planning and execution of the military’s COVID-19 response as well as other domestic resilience operations.
She has a Master’s degree in Chemistry and qualifications in Trauma Management and Human Factors.
She enjoys scuba diving, bouldering, hiking and motorbiking outside of work.
"I am passionate about crisis management and inspired by the teamwork needed to quickly understand a situation and work constructively to find a solution when handling a live crisis".
